This is something I've been working on yesterday and today. It is similar to KilloZapit's health bar patch, expect that this one has the HP displayed in numbers instead of hearts.
It gets rid of the red Mario text above the lives counter and replaces it with the HP counter (displayed like HP:3, or HP: 10). There are two patches: One that lets Mario have a Max of 9, and a one that lets Mario have a Max of 99. However, you can configure how much HP is the Max, the patches will just check if Mario has gone beyond 9 for some Hex->Dec Conversion. You might have to rearrange the lives counter as well, but I'm not sure about that. It's easy anyway using the Status Bar Editor :P
Because I'm lazy, I didn't make a video. But you should know that Mushroom increases the HP by one, the included sprite increases the HP by how much you want it to, and Mario dies when it reaches 0. If Mario completes a level with like 7 HP, he'll start the next level with 7 HP. If he dies, he'll have the initial health you set (in the asm file) and lose a life.
You can also make enemies decrease different amount of HP. Perhaps next time I'll include a version which makes some standard SMW enemies lose different amounts of HP as well ;)
Well I hope you enjoy using this! I know KZ's patch is way better anyway, but I made it and I hope you like it if you use it. Download it here.

Wall Boots released!
Hello there!
Today isn't much of an update, but because I am getting quite bored these days, I decided to finish my Wall Boots powerup and release it to SMWC! You can see a video of it in action from one of my previous posts here.
Download it here. Also, be sure to read the readme on how to set it up. And have fun using it! Expect another powerup release soon as well!

Yay! New Powerup again!
Hey...
My hands have been hurting me quite a lot today - I've been writing so much at school and typing on the keyboard for a few hours. Ow my poor fingers =/
Well, coming to the main topic - I made another powerup. This one is quite better than my other ones though since it gives you 3 abilities. It's called "Power Boots" because it gives you some power. With it, you can pick up blocks, smash through blocks, and push crates. Here is a video showing it:
Please note that these graphics aren't final - they're just a test.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. If you have any ideas for a custom powerup, please tell me and I'll try to make one - I want to make as many powerups as I can. Once I'm done with them I'll release them to the SMWC database.
Thanks and have a nice day!

Timer Sprite + Custom Block
For a few weeks I was thinking of some ideas for mini games in my hack. Some months back I was thinking to make a timer for them, since it'd be awesome to have a countdown feature. Yesterday and today I finally thought about making one, and it actually turned out very well - I'm really pleased with the result.
As you can see in this sample video, it has frames, seconds and minutes, which goes up to 59:59.59 (and then resets). It does also take up a lot of space in the status bar, but I'll remap the tiles when I actually use it in my hack. Also, this video shows it incrementing - I'll also make it decrement too.
So how am I going to use it? It'll probably just be used in some mini games where you have to find some special coins before the timer runs out out reaches or maybe reach a certain lime timit. I might also use it in races too but I don't plan on having a "best time" system.
On the other hand, I made a custom block which I thought might be useful. It's a block that, when hit from below by Mario, plays a sound effect and activates the special world features, like OW palette change and different Koopa GFX. You can also hit it again to deactivate the features and revert it to normal, with a different sound effect as well! You can use it for some cool things! Get the block here.
Oh, and the level contest is going on right now! Those who are participating - good luck! I have my level ready by the way - anyone up for beta testing? Please tell me if you want too!

Beta OW Contest Screenshot
Hey again :D
I haven't been posting in a week or so - that's because I've been quite busy with some other stuff - maybe I'll show a preview of the 3 Digit coin counter soon and maybe some other cool screenshots. But I need to redo the entire status bar, which might take a long time. So until then, I decided to show something to keep you updated!
It's is a beta shot of my Overworld - which I will use in the OW Hack Contest, which is due on 4th March, 2009. Here's a picture of it so far:

Please ignore the fact that Mario is standing on a water level - most level tiles are yellow - there's a piranha on a wall and a grey cave tile - those were all for testing purposes. I still want to try to make some OW sprites for this and add some more graphics to it. But I hope it all goes well - please comment on it ;)
Anyway, best of luck to all of those who are participating as well - and may the person with the best Overworld win!

New Custom Powerup!
yeah, I haven't been working on my hack for a few days. Instead I decided to make a new custom powerup - Wall Boots - which let you run on walls like the triangles do. It turned out quite sucessful though.
The video pretty much sums it up. You lose it if you get hit, or collect another item. It took me a while to make, mainly because I was doing some silly errors with some codes and offsets =/
Note: sorry for the bad quality, recording with Snes9x is pretty hard..

New Overworld!
Since I don't post many screenshots of my hack, I decided to show-off the main Overworld:

Yep, this is a new OW. I decided to make a new one since the other one sucked and didn't suit how my storyline would be. This one has much better graphics (most comes from Yoshi's Island) and decent palette changes. Of course, there are some mistakes here and there, but this is just a beta screenshot. Also, I'm aware that the volcano has a bad palette, that will also be fixed.
In other news, I made a small custom block. Well, it's just like the SMW Coin except that it is very customisable. You can change how many coins to give Mario, how many needed for an extra life, sounds to play etc.

Download that block here.

Shatter/Solid Blocks
Here's something I made today. It's nothing special but meh, might as well show it.

They're blocks that will only shatter when touched by Mario if the Blue POW is active. There's two blocks - One that shatters if the Blue POW is active, and one that is solid only if the Blue POW is active. Download the blocks here.
I've also put a comment in the asm file to configure it if you want the blocks to shatter on the silver POW.

Red Coins Patch
This is something I made a while ago... but I might as well show it here. It's basically adding another coin counter to the status bar replacing the bonus stars (honestly they suck, I don't know why they are even there =/) which ends the level through secret exit if you've collected 8 of them. It's kinda like the red coins in SM64, but instead of a star appearing, the keyhole event is triggered.
Get the download here. Oh, and this is V1.1 by the way, where a bug when using the blocktool redcoin block would crash the game, and now a glitter trail and palette change is shown when you collect the coin. I wanted these coins to act different and "special" compared to the normal yellow coins.
Blog Created!
Hey guys, welcome to my blog =D
yeah, everyone knows that there's a blog fad at SMWCentral, so I decided to make one myself here. If you don't know me, I'm Iceguy, a 13 year old regular member of the SMWC boards. I really like hacking SMW, as well as helping the community by providing some custom blocks and stuff. Here, I'll release most of the things I make like custom blocks, sprites, ASM and post screenshots and maybe videos of my hack, which is currently entitled "Super Mario: Return to Toadsville".
In case you didn't know what hacking SMW means, it's like like modifying the original SMW game by using your own levels, overworld, graphics, sprites, custom blocks, music and a lot more. As far as I know, Lunar Magic is the only and one of the greatest level editors there are for games. If you are interested in this, then you need to download Lunar Magic from SMWCentral, an SMW Rom (clean and unmodified) (find it on google or somewhere, hosting them is illegal), and an emulator to play. I'd recommend Zsnes or Snes9x, as they are easy to use. You can find a lot of emulators at Zophar's Domain.
Well, that's all I guess. I hope you actually read my blog here, as I'll show some nice stuff which you might be interested in.
